TMArticle-1: Know Your Target Market First

Finding and Marketing to Your Niche

Where and how do you find the leads you need?

We’re going to answer this question by asking and then answering 3 questions…

  • WHO is your target market?
  • What are the people who make up your target marketing looking for, thinking about, and talking about?
  • What problems are they having that you can help them solve?

You must first get the answers to those three questions. Not only do you need to answer the questions, you also need to know what you will do with the information you obtain.

Knowing the answers to these 3 questions is the first step in attracting a continuous stream of highly interested prospects to you… effectively and confidently.

Let’s look at the first question in another way…

Who is the ideal person that might be interested in joining you in your business or in using your services?

You’d better know who this person is–including the things they’re interested in and the problems you can help them solve before answering the question.

Follow a Formula that Gets a Crowd of Customers & Prospects Coming to You

It does not matter what your business is. It does not matter what you are trying to sell. What does matter, though, is… Who you are trying to attract to YOU and YOUR business?

The formula we’ll develop and use is the same no matter what the situation is. All you have to do is follow it step-by-step.

As we proceed I’ll show you how to build the formula.

Let’s turn our attention to the question, “Who is your target market?”

First, let’s state some goals:

  1. You want to get people coming to you who are already pre-sold on you and your offer
  2. Or you want them to make a purchase from you on their own because they see that it can help them solve a particular problem
  3. You have to, you MUST… know who you are selling to (No, we’re not talking about selling a product… more on this later)

You must be able to relate to your target market

Those are the 4 goals that must be achieved if you’re going to move ahead successfully, whether you’re using a blog, website, any of the many social sites as your marketing vehicle.

Don’t limit your definition of who your target is

One of the biggest mistakes that you can make is first, not taking the time to define your target market. Second, having made no effort to define who it is you are marketing to; you proceed as if everyone is your target market.

Both positions are not the mark of those who are running successful online business. They have taken it upon themselves to know and understand their target market.

For you, it is important to know that there just may be several target markets that you will need to consider…

  • Get to know each target market that you want to attract… make it a point to intimately know them
  • Consider as many possible target markets within your niche as you possibly can before you decide which ones you want to focus on
  • What are their personal concerns, problems, fears?… get this defined
  • What kinds of things are they thinking about, talking about, concerned about, and reading about

Use your own personal experiences to help you get these things defined. As it is with your own target market, your own personal experiences will help you to get things defined. The issues, problems, challenges they may be facing now, are probably the same as you have faced. Use that personal experience knowledge to your benefit.

Once you know and understand what the issues are that your target market is experiencing, you’ll be able to better position yourself as a provider of solutions. And that’s the key… you want to be seen as a person who can provide solid solutions to people who need your help and have sought you because they believe you can help them.
